The hotel is 3 miles from the market town of Oswestry which hosts the biggest street market in Shropshire on a Wednesday and Saturday whilst the medieval timbered towns of Chester and Shrewsbury are only a short drive away.  A number of National Trust properties are also nearby including Powis Castle, Attingham Hall, Chirk Castle and Erddig.  A little further afield is Bodnant Garden which is repeatedly voted by National Trust members as their favourite gardens.

Dogs are very much welcomed at the Peny-y-Dyffryn where there are an extensive number of walks that you can do from the door either through the neighbouring 100 acre wood or up into the surrounding mountains.  The Pen-y-Dyffryn has prepared its own guide to lots of the local walks including short half hour walks to all day strenuous walks with the customary pub lunch on route.
